The History of Covenant
Baptist Church –––
Covenant Baptist Church is a reformed Southern Baptist church plant located
in Henderson, Ky. This new work has been functioning for almost two years,
and during this time, God has graciously blessed us with many exciting
developments. The following is a brief synopsis of Gods working
in the life our church plant.
In the spring of 2000, a seed was planted that would someday become Covenant
Baptist Church. During this time a small group of believers, motivated
by a love for Truth, God-Centered Worship and Authentic Christian Living
began meeting at the Green Valley Association for a topical bible study.
Some of the topics covered in these studies, were R.C. Sprouls study
on The Holiness Of God, and Jerry Bridges study on Trusting God even when
life hurts. These topical studies, drew a group of ten to twelve people
and allowed for Covenant to began developing a core group. Also during
the summer, God was pleased to bless us with the opportunity to hold weekly
in home prayer meetings, and secure a place of worship. In June of 2000,
Covenant began holding Sunday evening preaching and worship services at
the Seventh Day Adventist church of Henderson Ky. These evening services
helped solidify a core group of six families and allowed for great times
of God-centered worship, authentic fellowship, biblical teaching and preaching.
Since September 2002, Covenant has been holding Sunday morning worship
services at the old Kentucky State Police Post. The location is
2900 Highway 41 North, nestled within the pine trees adjacent to
Audubon State Park.
During the past years, God has blessed us with the opportunity to host
a Family Life Seminar, with Richard Nelson of the Family Foundation. In
addition, we have been able to offer the tremendously enriching book study
Desiring God, by John Piper. These activities, coupled with much
prayer have strengthened our core group, and have allowed us to transition
to morning bible study and morning worship. Since, May, 2001, we have
been meeting on Sunday mornings for Bible Study and Worship. Our hope
is that through relationships, worship and bible study we can continue
to build our core group. What we have learned from our brief but exciting
history, bears testimony to the fact, that it is only by Gods grace
and through His providential guiding that a church plant grows.
May God continue to bless Covenant over the coming months and years!
